MARYLAND'S CLIMATE TECH PRE-ACCELERATOR: SUMMER 2023

The Maryland Climate Tech Pre-Accelerator is a unique opportunity to test if your climate-tech research and ideas have commercial viability through a startup journey. The Maryland Innovation Energy Accelerator (MEIA) will implement the pre-accelerator with the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech), Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEII), Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI), Loyola University Maryland, and Frostburg State University.

The exciting agenda of the Pre-Accelerator will have you work on the following elements for your potential venture:

  • Understand if you are personally ready for the startup journey
  • Provide a deep understanding of potential target markets for your idea
  • Give you an understanding of potential business models to be successful
  • Provide a commercialization path that includes potential funding sources, such as grants, equity, bank financing, or sweat equity.

Two experienced startup coaches will facilitate the pre-accelerator, which include Kobby Osei-Kusi, and Mike Ducker, who have experience with climate tech, startups, market discovery, facilitating investment, finding federal grants, and product development. In addition, the UMD I-Corp program will provide content and instructors. Most importantly, MEIA will recruit and mobilize industry mentors to help provide deep market insights for your idea.

The pre-accelerator will run with weekly mentor sessions or workshops between June and August. The workshop will be primarily virtual, with an in-person launch and graduation. Pre-accelerator graduates who want to continue the startup journey will be welcomed into MEIA's Launchpad program, where MEIA will recruit an executive team.

If you are ready to take the first steps into your climate-tech startup journey, sign up for the 2023 Maryland Climate Tech Pre-Accelerator here.
